Woodruff has gone a perfect 6-0 against Blacksburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Woodruff will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Woodruff let Union County stack five runs on them in the first inning on Friday but luckily Woodruff prevailed anyway. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Yellowjackets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since April 23, 2025.
Blacksburg not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 10th (when they won 20-0). They put the hurt on High Point Academy with a sharp 19-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Zander Batchler and Easton Ramsey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Batchler tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ramsey pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Batchler has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Batchler went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Ramsey went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Ramsey has become a key player for Blacksburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, Blacksburg got a massive performance out of Kayson Pittman, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Pittman has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Neal Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Blacksburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Woodruff's record is now 11-13. As for Blacksburg, their record now sits at 7-13.
Woodruff was able to grind out a solid victory over Blacksburg when the teams last played back in March, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
