Big North - Independence recap October 22, 2013
Ramapo extended the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating West Milford, 42-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Raiders.
Passaic Valley and Northern Valley Regional played the closest game in the league this week, with Passaic Valley eventually emerging with a 15-13 victory.
Ramapo's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Dougherty threw for 300 and 4 touchdowns and Connor Russo had 80 yards receiving. On the ground Matt Giacose chipped in 98 yards. Ryan Curtiss helped Ramapo's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 61 yards.
He was 18-25 with 1 interception.
Giacose was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 98 yards as Drew Gibbs' team bested the Highlanders. Chris Gordon also contributed to the rushing game with 15 yards on the ground.
The Raiders' Dougherty and John Goldschrafe led Big North - Independence in both passing and receiving yards. Dougherty has thrown for 1,601 yards this season, while Goldschrafe has 28 catches for 455 yards. Hassan Evans from Bergenfield leads the league in rushing with 516 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when West Milford takes on the Bears. As it stands, Donald Dougherty's team is in fifth, while Bergenfield is in fourth.
The Highlanders fell to Ramapo 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
