The Charlotte Orioles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. The contest between them and Central Montcalm wasn't particularly close, with Charlotte falling 46-32. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Charlotte of the 48-36 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Charlotte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaelyn Baker. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with three steals. That was a full 53.1% of Charlotte's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lyndi Miller, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Charlotte has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Central Montcalm, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlotte will take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Lansing Catholic's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Orioles have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Central Montcalm, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Alma presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Hornets in Michigan (the Panthers are ranked 98th, while the Hornets are ranked 396th).
