Baseball Game Preview: East Longmeadow Spartans vs. Taconic Thunder

East Longmeadow is 1-9 against Taconic since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spartans will host the Thunder at 4:00 p.m. East Longmeadow is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

East Longmeadow will bounce into Friday's match after beating Minnechaug Regional, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the Falcons on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Spartans have posted against the Falcons since May 3, 2023.

Colin Maruca and Max Carlin did most of the damage at the plate: Maruca went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Carlin went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Maruca has become a key player for East Longmeadow: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas LaChapelle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Taconic and Pittsfield meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Thunder fell just short of the Generals by a score of 8-7.

Taconic's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-4. As for East Longmeadow, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-3.
