The Elkhorn South Storm will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Burke Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully Elkhorn South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
On Thursday, Elkhorn South sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-52 victory over Gretna East.
Elkhorn South's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lincoln Schwarz, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Schwarz hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Skradis, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Burke's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by Papillion-LaVista South 83-44. While losing is never fun, Burke can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Papillion-LaVista South is ranked 38th).
Elkhorn South has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. As for Burke, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14.
Everything came up roses for Elkhorn South against Burke in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 85-42 win. With Elkhorn South ahead 44-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
