The Fort Calhoun Pioneers lost a heartbreaker to the Conestoga Cougars when they met back in January of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. Fort Calhoun took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Conestoga. Fort Calhoun has struggled against Conestoga recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grayson Bouwman, who scored 13 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Colby Bentley, who scored 17 points.
Conestoga found their leader in underclassman Owen Trofholz, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Trofholz hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Andy Lamoureux was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Fort Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Conestoga, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Fort Calhoun won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Fort Calhoun is ranked 37th). As for Conestoga, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Douglas County West at 6:15 p.m. on January 27th. Douglas County West is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
