King-Chavez Community is 0-3 against the Redhawks since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The pair will face off at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. King-Chavez Community is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
King-Chavez Community scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against School for Entrepreneurship & Technology by a score of 46-39. The win was just what King-Chavez Community needed coming off of a 58-22 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Mountain Empire came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 72-26 victory over Monarch at home. With Mountain Empire ahead 39-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Empire to victory, but perhaps none more so than Corey Vann, who almost dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Vann is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Andrew Sepulveda was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
King-Chavez Community's win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-6. As for Mountain Empire, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
King-Chavez Community was dealt a bruising 61-22 loss at the hands of the Redhawks in their previous matchup back in January. Can King-Chavez Community avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
