Fremont hasn't had much luck against Farmington recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Silverwolves will look to defend their home court against the Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. Farmington took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Fremont, who comes in off a win.
Fremont was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Layton 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Silverwolves have posted since April 27, 2024.
Fremont was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (104-103), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Fremont can attribute much of their success to John Suka, who had 16 digs and two assists, and Cooper Toyn, who had four digs and two aces. That's the most aces Toyn has posted since back in March. Will Hacker also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.
Meanwhile, Farmington faced Davis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Phoenix came up short against the Darts, falling 3-0. The Phoenix's loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
While Farmington ultimately came up short, they really made Davis work, particularly in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 26-24, 25-16.
Fremont's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-13. As for Farmington, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Fremont has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
