Evansville Memorial has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Mt. Vernon Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evansville Memorial has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Evansville Reitz scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, Evansville Memorial still came out on top. Evansville Memorial secured a 64-58 W over the Panthers. Given Evansville Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Panthers are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Luke Ellspermann was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Clark Gries, who scored ten points.
Mt. Vernon won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were beaten by Princeton 62-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mt. Vernon has scored all season.
Evansville Memorial pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Evansville Memorial strolled past the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 68-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evansville Memorial since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
