Wood River is 9-1 against Doniphan-Trumbull since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Wood River Eagles will get right back to it and host the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 7:45 p.m. on February 9th. The timing is sure in Wood River's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Doniphan-Trumbull has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
On Thursday, Wood River was the victim of a rough 55-32 defeat at the hands of Minden. While losing is never fun, Wood River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Minden is ranked tenth).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Courtney Dimmitt, who scored seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Peters, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Doniphan-Trumbull came up short against Holdrege on Tuesday and fell 47-36.
Defeat or not, Doniphan-Trumbull got some senior leadership from Ridley Sadd and Kaleah Olson. Sadd scored eight points along with five assists and two steals, while Olson. scored eight points along with two steals. Sadd hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Wood River's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wood River have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Doniphan-Trumbull struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wood River came out on top in a nail-biter against Doniphan-Trumbull when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 48-45. Will Wood River repeat their success, or does Doniphan-Trumbull have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
