The Marina Mariners waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged North Monterey County out 62-60. Given Marina's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while North Monterey County is ranked 935th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marina's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Julius Robinson, who scored 26 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bonnard Webb, who scored 19 points.
Marina pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for North Monterey County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marina will take on Seaside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Monterey County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alisal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
