With a playoff win on the line, Rossville rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past the Delphi Community Oracles 15-1. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matches by six runs or more this season.
Avery Layton was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gracie McDonald was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Addi Gorbett, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Rossville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delphi Community only posted an OBP of .176.
The win (which was Rossville's ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Delphi Community, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13.
As of now, neither Rossville nor the Oracles have any future games scheduled.
