San Luis Obispo is 1-8-1 against Templeton since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m.
San Luis Obispo made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Nipomo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers fell just short of the Titans by a score of 9-7 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 7, 2024.
Audrey Youngs made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Huff, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Templeton had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Horned Toads 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Tegan Jay tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Morris, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jessie Branch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for San Luis Obispo and nudges their season record down to 10-7-1. As for Templeton, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Luis Obispo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Templeton struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Luis Obispo couldn't quite get it done against Templeton in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 as they fell 6-2. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
