Manchester is 0-4 against Windsor since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Red Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Warriors at 3:45 p.m. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Manchester took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Northwest Catholic as they made off with a 21-3 victory. While the Red Hawks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Izabella Derench ?26 was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Derench ?26 was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Shove ?27, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Hunter '26, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Manchester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .718. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Windsor fell victim to Edwin O. Smith and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 13-0 to the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Warriors have suffered against the Panthers since May 9, 2016.
Manchester's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Windsor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
Manchester couldn't quite get it done against Windsor in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 4-1. Can the Red Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
