St. Petersburg Catholic is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will challenge the Northside Christian Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. St. Petersburg Catholic is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
St. Petersburg Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Victory Christian Academy a 63-0 shutout on Friday. Fans of the Barons have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
St. Petersburg Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brendan Wright out in front who picked up 122 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 30 yards and two TDs. Chase Burrill was another key signal caller, throwing for 247 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Petersburg Catholic's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Colton Shaw and Alex Malyszko, who racked up five sacks between them. Shaw is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last five games he's played. St. Petersburg Catholic got some further help from Courtney Taylor: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 15 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Northside Christian lost 56-36 to Calvary Christian on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Warriors are ranked 92nd).
St. Petersburg Catholic will have to contain Jayce Jones as he made an impact in Northside Christian's last game. He picked up 101 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Northside Christian also got help from MacRae Allen, who showed off his sure hands for 104 receiving yards.
Having lost for the first time this season, Northside Christian fell to 5-1. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, their record now sits at 6-0.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. St. Petersburg Catholic has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 171.8 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Northside Christian has preferred to attack from the air: they average 305.3 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
