The Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves will venture away from home to face off against the Martin County Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oxbridge Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Oxbridge Academy's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on West Boca Raton with a sharp 12-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the ThunderWolves considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Oxbridge Academy got a great performance from Isabella Penbe as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Penbe has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Riley Frauntfelter was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she's hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bianco, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Oxbridge Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Boca Raton only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, everything went Martin County's way against Treasure Coast on Tuesday as Martin County made off with an 8-0 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.
Treasure Coast's batters probably weren't too happy with Brealyn White, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up three walks).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ciana Vargas, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Amelia Hannah was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Martin County and bumps their season record up to 3-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.5 runs. As for Oxbridge Academy, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Oxbridge Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Oxbridge Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Martin County when the teams last played back in March of 2020, sneaking past 1-0. Will Oxbridge Academy repeat their success, or does Martin County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
