Paxton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Freeport Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Paxton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Monday.
In what's become a running theme this season, Paxton gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They breezed by Florala at home to the tune of 61-26. Given Paxton's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 134th in Florida, while Florala is ranked 302nd in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hydie Varnum was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds. Alyssa Carson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Freeport suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 68-48 loss at the hands of Jay. Freeport has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Paxton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Paxton came up short against Freeport in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 55-51. Can Paxton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
