The Coventry Comets will be playing at home against the Streetsboro Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Coventry has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Streetsboro will arrive with five straight wins.
Coventry fell victim to Cloverleaf's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Colts, falling 35-0. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Streetsboro humbled Springfield with a 76-6 victory. The result was nothing new for Streetsboro, who have now won six matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
Streetsboro can attribute much of their success to Preston Hopperton, who gained 195 total yards and six touchdowns, and Cohen Klimak, who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Klimak's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Kylan Rue, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Streetsboro's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ayden Knuebel.
Coventry has been struggling this season, as they've lost eight of their first nine games, which leaves them at a 1-8 record this season. As for Streetsboro, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Coventry was dealt a bruising 63-35 defeat at the hands of Streetsboro when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Coventry, Colby Benjamin (who rushed for 100 yards, and also threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
