Baseball Recap: Carl Hayden Community Wins Going Away Against Fairfax

Carl Hayden Community barely beat Fairfax the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons blew past the Stampede 8-2 on Thursday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Orlando Rios spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Jose Rios was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Alberto Gomez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Carl Hayden Community and bumps their season record up to 11-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Fairfax, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-10.

Looking ahead, Carl Hayden Community will be playing at home against Metro Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fairfax, they have already played their next match, a 16-6 victory against Washington on the 25th.
