Piedmont Classical has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Piedmont Classical focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
After only 16 points in their last matchup, Piedmont Classical made sure to put some points up on the board against Cornerstone Charter. Piedmont Classical breezed by Cornerstone Charter at home to the tune of 58-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Piedmont Classical has posted since December 1, 2023.
Piedmont Classical can attribute much of their success to Keniya Waring, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 21 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Waring scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marti Holley, who scored seven points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to College Prep & Leadership Academy, who are still winless after their 11th matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 71-13 loss at the hands of Ben L. Smith. While losing is never fun, College Prep & Leadership Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 600th, while Ben L. Smith is ranked 82nd).
Piedmont Classical's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they bumped their record down to 0-11 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Piedmont Classical didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against College Prep & Leadership Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 55-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Piedmont Classical since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
