The DuPont Manual Crimsons are taking a road trip to challenge Great Crossing at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. DuPont Manual has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, DuPont Manual came up short against DeSales and fell 11-6.
DuPont Manual saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Sanford, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Another was Johnny Willen, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Great Crossing had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Defenders.
Great Crossing also got a great performance from Parker Covington as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Covington a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Caden Howland was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Chase Little was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Great Crossing always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bryan Station only posted an OBP of .394.
DuPont Manual's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Great Crossing, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. DuPont Manual has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Great Crossing struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
