Basketball Recap: Mattoon Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Mattoon lost to Effingham back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Mattoon Greenwave took down the Effingham Hearts 57-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greenwave.

Mattoon's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-17. As for Effingham, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-20.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattoon will take on Mt. Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season. As for Effingham, they will head out to face off against Mahomet-Seymour at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Mahomet-Seymour's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
