Ephrata is a perfect 8-0 against Cedar Crest since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mountaineers will head out to square off against the Falcons at 4:15 p.m. Ephrata is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Ephrata came up short against Cumberland Valley and fell 9-6. The Mountaineers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Landry Weidner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Ethan Hunt was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Cedar Crest's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Twin Valley on Friday. The Falcons just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Aaron Krumbine was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cedar Crest is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise.
Ephrata's record is now 10-5. As for Cedar Crest, their record now sits at 6-9.
Ephrata's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Mountaineers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cedar Crest, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ephrata continue to outrun the ball?
Ephrata was able to grind out a solid victory over Cedar Crest when the teams last played on April 9th, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
