Brady Smigiel of
Newbury Park is this week's MaxPreps California High School Football Player of the Week.
The sophomore quarterback threw for 492 yards on 37 of 57 passing and seven touchdowns in a 63-52 loss to St. Joseph (Santa Maria).
For the season, Smigiel has thrown for 1,031 yards on 79 of 114 passing and 17 touchdowns against two interceptions for the 2-1 Panthers. Last week's game was the second time this season he's thrown seven touchdowns, reaching that total in a season-opening 59-49 win over Golden Valley (Santa Clarita).
Here are the rest of this week's candidates, who collectively earned more than 72,000 votes:

Wyatt Becker,
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth): The junior quarterback had four passing and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of a 56-0 win over Green Valley. Becker was 11 of 15 passing for 262 yards.

Elijah Brown,
Mater Dei (Santa Ana): The senior quarterback had a career day against Creekside (Fairburn, Ga.), throwing for 372 yards and seven touchdowns in the 62-0 victory.

Chase Farrell,
Oaks Christian (Westlake Village): The senior wide receiver had five receptions, three for touchdowns, and 182 yards in a 50-14 win over Roosevelt (Eastvale).

Jackson Kollock,
Laguna Beach: The junior quarterback threw two touchdown passes and ran for a pair of scores in a 35-21 win over Northwood. Kollock was 14 of 22 for 256 yards and ran for 90 yards on 16 carries.

Husan Longstreet,
Centennial (Corona): The junior quarterback threw for 288 yards on 21 of 28 passing and five touchdowns in a 50-43 win over Punahou. He added 109 yards rushing and a score.

Edward Rivera,
South East (South Gate: The freshman running back ran for 192 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns while adding nine tackles on defense.
