The Avon Panthers had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 61-53 victory over Calvary Chapel Academy on Tuesday. For Avon, this counts as revenge for the 77-72 loss Calvary Chapel Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.
Josiah Guerrier was the offensive standout of the match as he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Thomas Edwards, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Avon's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Falmouth Academy at 4:00 p.m. on December 13th. Calvary Chapel Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Atlantis at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
