The Riverdale Falcons will square off against the Seneca East Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Riverdale has four straight wins, Seneca East has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Riverdale got the win against Vanlue by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Falcons have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grady Phelps was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Phelps was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Evan Reiter was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Riverdale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Owen Karcher was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Riverdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .545 or higher in three consecutive games.
Seneca East couldn't beat Upper Sandusky on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Tigers lost 16-5 to the Rams.
Seneca East saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Deacon Lacy, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Riverdale pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Seneca East, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Seneca East's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverdale has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. It's a different story for Seneca East, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain Riverdale's hitters?
Riverdale took their victory against Seneca East when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
