The Hackberry Mustangs will face off against the DeQuincy Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
DeQuincy will be up against a hot Hackberry squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Mustangs' way against South Cameron on Thursday as they made off with a 14-3 win.

Madden Spicer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Hackberry: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-6 otherwise. Spicer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Murphy, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Hackberry's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Kaston Moore was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Hackberry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for DeQuincy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Pickering a 15-0 shutout on Thursday.
Like Hackberry, DeQuincy also got a great game from a two-way player: Carson Rainwater. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rainwater has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Noah Pettifield was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Turner Rodriquez, who scored three runs and stole two bases.
DeQuincy's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Hackberry, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Hackberry might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from DeQuincy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
