III Section III recap September 17, 2013
Saguaro was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in III Section III. Earlier in the week, the Sabercats triumphed over Bradshaw Mountain 69-21.
Saguaro took down the Bears 69-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Luke Rubenzer threw for 315 yards and 5 touchdowns and ran for 54 yards in the win.
Weston Barlow was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 233 yards on 27 carries as Queen Creek bested Bradshaw Mountain. Teammate Layne Roshay added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
Barlow was a force in the backfield as the Bulldogs bested Show Low.
Tyler Bloom threw for 402 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 23-37 with 0 interceptions.
Bloom put up the best numbers in passing as Higley bested Phoenix Christian. Bloom's favorite target this week was Nick Colson, who caught 10 passes for 149 yards.
Nettleton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Sabercats topped Jared Woodruff's team. Nettleton racked up 4 receptions for 151 yards. Brett Adams helped Saguaro's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 93 yards.
Kyron Cardwell made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Knights defeated the Cougars. The 5-foot-11 player grabbed 2 interceptions.
6-foot-5 quarterback Bloom of Higley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 951. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nettleton. The Saguaro star has 12 catches for 436 yards.
An important game coming up in III Section III this week will be when McClintock takes on Queen Creek. The Chargers are in fifth place, while Joe Germaine's team is in second place.
South Mountain made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,083 from 11,435. The improvement was the result of 41-12 victory over the Jaguars last week.
