Softball Recap: Aitkin Gets the Win

Aitkin hadn't done well against Moose Lake/Willow River recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Gobblers came out on top against the Rebels by a score of 9-5. This was payback for the Gobblers, who suffered an 8-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Aitkin got a massive performance out of Natalie Stueven, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Stueven has launched this season. Haley Shereck was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Aitkin and bumps their season record up to 10-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Moose Lake/Willow River, they moved to 9-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Aitkin and Moose Lake/Willow River should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Gobblers will take on East Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (56 vs. 298). Meanwhile, Moose Lake/Willow River (ranked 35th) will meet Cherry (ranked 110th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
