The Paxton Tigers will take on the Arthur County Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paxton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
On Friday, Paxton came up short against St. Patrick's and fell 60-49. The Tigers have struggled against the Irish recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maddex McConnell, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 21 points. Another player making a difference was Chase Holm, who shot 63% from the field en route to 11 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arthur County). They strolled past Wauneta-Palisade with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 56-38. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Wolves with their most commanding win of the season.
Arthur County's win came from a few key players that Paxton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carter Storer, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. Those 20 points gave him a new career-high. Kaleb Allen was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Arthur County was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They are 2-1 when they've passed the ball that well.
Arthur County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. As for Paxton, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Paxton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Arthur County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Paxton against Arthur County when the teams last played back in February of 2016, as the team secured a 62-14 victory. In that matchup, the Tigers amassed a halftime lead of 36-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
