Football Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Snags Ninth Victory in Last 12 Games

On Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights beat the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans 34-28. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas was led to victory by Cheyanne Thornhill and Jasmine White. Thornhill threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns while completing 92.9% of her passes, while White rushed for 27 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Thornhill a new career-high in passer rating (169.9).

Another reason for the win was Mater Academy East Las Vegas' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Serina Mendez and Miranda Lopez, who racked up eight sacks between them. Mendez also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.6 points per game. As for Cimarron-Memorial, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12.
