Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Poly Engineers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Franklin 49-0 on Friday. Poly has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Franklin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dre Harper led the charge by throwing for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Anthony Gibson, who picked up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Franklin's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Bryce Allen and his two sacks.
Poly's loss was their third straight at home , which bumped their record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 2.0 points per game. As for Franklin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-5.
Poly does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Franklin will head out on the road to face off against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
