After a string of four wins, the Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Mancos at home by a decisive 69-51 margin.
When it comes to explaining why Thomas MacLaren School lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sam Montgomery. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Beckett Shannon, who scored ten points.
Mancos' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brian Veach led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chris Medina, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Thomas MacLaren School's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Mancos, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas MacLaren School will challenge Fountain Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fountain Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Thomas MacLaren School likes a good challenge. Mancos won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sanford at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th.
