Basketball Recap: Terre Haute South Vigo Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Avery Cassell and Samarra Newburn

Terre Haute South Vigo lost against Martinsville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Terre Haute South Vigo Braves lost to the Martinsville Artesians on the road by a 38-20 margin. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Samarra Newburn and Avery Cassell certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Newburn went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and four steals, while Cassell posted five points. Newburn has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played.

Martinsville was led to victory by Jade Meade and Ruby Murrell. Meade went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points along with seven boards and four steals, while Murrell had four points in addition to six steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Murrell a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynlee Hamblin, who put up four points.

Terre Haute South Vigo's record is now 7-12. As for Martinsville, their victory bumped their record up to 4-12.

Terre Haute South Vigo has already played their next contest, a 59-52 win against Terre Haute North Vigo on the 17th. Martinsville has also already played their next matchup (against Cascade), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
