Braylon Wagner was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Redbank Valley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-5 otherwise. Drew Byers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Redbank Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Cranberry Area's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of DuBois Central Catholic on Monday. The Berries have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cranberry Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Morrow, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Redbank Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cranberry Area, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Redbank Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cranberry Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Redbank Valley took their victory against Cranberry Area when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
