The West Wilkes Blackhawks will head out to take on the West Iredell Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Friday, West Wilkes was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 20-15 to Ashe County. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, West Iredell gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against West Caldwell by a score of 28-19.
West Iredell can attribute much of their success to Jermaine Cornelius, who picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cornelius also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing two fumbles and making five total tackles in addition to snagging two interceptions.
West Iredell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Caldwell only rushed for 122.
West Iredell wouldn't let West Caldwell keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Cornelius was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
West Wilkes now has a losing record at 1-2. As for West Iredell, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
