There's no place like home for the Spencer Greenwave, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They secured a 59-55 W over Northeast on Friday. Given Spencer's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while Northeast is ranked 473rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Joe Dozier continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for four straight games. KeyShaun Sampton was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Northeast still got an impressive performance from Amani Brown, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 assists. Another player making a difference was Jatavion Zellner, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Northeast were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spencer only racked up 11 assists.
Spencer's win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.6 points. As for Northeast, their loss dropped their record down to 5-18.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spencer will take on Southwest at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Southwest will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Spencer surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northeast, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jordan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeast is facing Jordan at the right time seeing as Jordan is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
