Last Thursday, Desert Mountain lost to Arcadia at home by a decisive 52-37 margin. Desert Mountain has struggled against Arcadia recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Desert Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Nicolette Kelly scored 13 points along with 7 steals. Kelly scored a full 35.1% of Desert Mountain's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Adyson Lundberg was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Paradise Valley came up short against Casteel on Tuesday and fell 45-34.
The losing side was boosted by Emilee Resendez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Desert Mountain's victory lifted them to 2-2 while Arcadia's defeat dropped them down to 1-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Desert Mountain have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Paradise Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
