Chaparral and Notre Dame Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Chaparral Firebirds will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 6:00 p.m. Chaparral will be strutting in after a win while Notre Dame Prep will be coming in after a loss.
Chaparral is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Desert Edge a 17-0 shutout on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Firebirds needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Devin Long tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, Gavin Mesa was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Halvorson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while it was Notre Dame Prep who put the first points on the board on Wednesday, it was Silo who put up more. Notre Dame Prep fell just short of Silo by a score of 6-5. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Notre Dame Prep also got a good showing from Ben Hofmeister, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Owen Boeding was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jace Wright, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Notre Dame Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Chaparral, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
