Millbrook is 2-8 against Leesville Road since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Wildcats will take on the Pride in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Leesville Road will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Millbrook extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Wildcats came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Jordan. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 9, 2024.
Millbrook saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Conner Thomas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double was Thomas' first of the season. Another was Jack Strom, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Leesville Road sidestepped Wake Forest for an 8-7 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pride have posted against the Cougars since April 6, 2016.
Ben Fields and Landon Lewis did most of the damage at the plate: Fields went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Lewis went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Fields a new career-high. Ethan Engelson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Millbrook pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Leesville Road, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
Millbrook's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Leesville Road, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Millbrook continue to outrun the ball?
Millbrook might still be hurting after the 13-5 defeat they got from Leesville Road in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
