It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes had no problem doing just that on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 42-24 victory over Gilmer. Winning may never get old, but Monroe Area sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Monroe Area found their leader in underclassman Jitt Carr, who rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Dylan Hamby, who threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.
Monroe Area has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Gilmer, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Monroe Area will take on Carver at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carver will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Gilmer does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
