5A Region 3 recap September 24, 2013
Jordan's Clay Moss recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Region 3 this season in his game against Herriman last week. Moss ran for 80 yards on the play and finished with 276 on the day as his team beat the Mustangs.
Brighton added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hunter, 41-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Austin Kafentzis and Moss gave Jordan a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Teammate Kafentzis added to the ground attack by rushing for 114 yards.
Kafentzis and Moss gave Eric Kjar's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Moss was a beast in the backfield as the Beetdiggers beat Herriman.
Tyler Martin was the best receiver in the league this week as West Jordan lost to Cottonwood. Martin racked up 4 receptions for 83 yards. Brent Beales helped West Jordan's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 79 yards.
Kafentzis threw for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 21-35 with 1 interception.
Kafentzis put up the best numbers in passing as Jordan topped Dustin Pearce's team. Kafentzis' favorite target this week was Mason Kruger, who caught 9 passes for 82 yards.
Moss was the best running back in 5A Region 3 this week.
Thanks to the talents of Kafentzis and Moss, the Beetdiggers have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Kafentzis is tops in the league in passing with 1,234 yards, while Moss has rushed for 715 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Alta's Mack Richards, with 533 yards on 27 catches.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Brighton and the Hawks. Ryan Bullet's team enters the game ranked fifth in the state, while Alta ranks sixth.
Bingham took down Granger 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dominieke Jones during the win.
