After flying high against the Lakewood Tigers last Saturday, the Columbine Rebels came back down to earth. Columbine had to suffer through a rough 75-47 loss at the hands of Valor Christian. While losing is never fun, Columbine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Valor Christian is ranked fourth).
Columbine's loss on Wednesday came despite strong showings from Jordyn Washington and Emily Allison. Washington scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Allison scored 17 points along with two steals and two blocks. Washington also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Valor Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Peyton Jones, who shot 6-for-11 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jones pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quinn Vansickle, who scored 24 points along with five steals.
Columbine's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Valor Christian, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Columbine will head out on the road to face off against Ralston Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Valor Christian, they will be playing at home against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Valor Christian is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Cherry Creek a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
