The Glenwood Titans will challenge the Waterloo Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Glenwood comes in on 16 and Waterloo on 11.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Glenwood and Williamsville meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Titans were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Bullets. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won 17 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Alyvia Streb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hope Gilmore was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Ava Bobb was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Glenwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive contests.
Waltonville typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Waterloo proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Spartans 7-1. The Bulldogs are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the ninth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Waterloo also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sam Juelfs gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claire Parker, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
Glenwood pushed their record up to 25-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Waterloo, their record now sits at 17-2.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Glenwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Waterloo struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
