After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Valley Christian Academy, the Maricopa Indians were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past San Luis Obispo Classical Academy 38-36. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but Maricopa was the better team in the second half.
Maricopa can attribute much of their success to Nathaniel Stroud, who scored 23 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stroud has scored at least 25% of Maricopa's points. Michael Grysko was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Maricopa's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for San Luis Obispo Classical Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.
Maricopa will head out on the road to face off against Coastal Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Coastal Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season. San Luis Obispo Classical Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting Morro Bay at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
