Santa Cruz had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 7-10 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Harbor Pirates. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cardinals needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Leah Serna made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Serna was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucia Curley, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tezdyn Medina-Mates, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Santa Cruz was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harbor only posted a batting average of .167.
As for Harbor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12. They have struggled against Santa Cruz recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
On Harbor's side, Hana Pomrantz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and nine unearned) runs on ten hits. Pomrantz has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Sofia Monroe was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Leah Heitmann also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Santa Cruz will venture away from home to challenge Monte Vista Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Harbor, they will host Scotts Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
