Mynderse Academy is 2-8 against Geneva since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m.
Mynderse Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Penn Yan Academy by a score of 6-5 on Monday.
Byron Catalano was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with eight stolen bases and two runs. Jerry Furman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Geneva had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Mustangs. Considering the Panthers have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Dylan Weisner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Santos, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Dorrington, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Geneva's record is now 7-2. As for Mynderse Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mynderse Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Geneva struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mynderse Academy might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Geneva when the teams last played back in April. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
