Even though the Stanton Mustangs have not done well against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Stanton pulled ahead with a 39-38 photo finish over Howells-Dodge. For Stanton, this counts as revenge for the 50-37 defeat Howells-Dodge walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Stanton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skyler Siebrandt led the charge by scoring 8 points along with 17 rebounds and 6 blocks. Another player making a difference was Rebecca Stoddard, who scored 15 points.
Howells-Dodge's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jade Bayer, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyten Becker, who scored 5 points along with 4 steals.
Stanton's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Howells-Dodge, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton will face off against Tekamah-Herman at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Howells-Dodge, they will head out on the road to face off against Aquinas on Tuesday.
