The Buckeye Panthers pushed their score all the way to 38 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Jena, falling 74-38. Buckeye has struggled against Jena recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Buckeye lost, one person who can't be blamed is Haidyn Boone. Despite the final result, he picked up 235 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Boone was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jim Burlew, who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Buckeye's loss was their third straight at home , which bumped their record down to 5-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Jena, Marksville, and Bunkie. As for Jena, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Buckeye will head out on the road to face off against De La Salle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. De La Salle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Buckeye in Louisiana (De La Salle is ranked 61st, while Buckeye is ranked 206th). Jena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
