Gibbs is 0-10 against Carter since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Gibbs Eagles are on the road again and plays the Carter Green Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Gibbs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Carter likes a good challenge.
Gibbs pushed their score all the way to 69 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The contest between them and Union County wasn't particularly close, with Gibbs falling 84-69. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (65), Gibbs still had to take the loss.
Gibbs' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zack Turner, who scored 24 points along with eight assists, and Mason Melton who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Turner hasn't dropped below 16 points for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamen Shown, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Carter's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 81-32 loss at the hands of Fulton. While losing is never fun, Carter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Fulton is ranked 17th).
Gibbs' loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Carter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.
Gibbs lost to Carter on the road by a decisive 69-54 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Gibbs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
